Silas: Okay. So here’s how it went. You know if you learned to hear God’s voice He sometimes tells you things you didn’t expect. Quite often actually. What he told me sounded something like: ” Look over there at Amy, isn’t she great”. I had to agree, a beautiful, spirit filled and always encouraging girl. He didn’t just say it once, but pretty much every time we were in a staff meeting. That was really distracting. And… Okay, I need to add I knew she just spent three months reading the Bible… and Amy didn’t leave my mind, God didn’t let her leave my mind. Every time we had an event going on or even just in the dinner line I hoped she would be around so we could talk.

And then Covid19 hit New Zealand. Sounds bad, but for me that was great, I was stuck with Amy on the other side of the World. By chance? I hope not. Well, we couldn’t let the Bible school go, so we just had to spend many hours daily together. Okay, that sounds more random than it actually was, we can both see how God’s hand was in it. Fast forward I finally got over myself, listened to God, who had been telling me for months to pray for Amy to become my wife. I got the courage together and asked her to be my girlfriend. To my surprise she said “Yes”! I thought she was far beyond my reach. But Amy said “Yes! I still cant believe it sometimes.

Not long into our relationship God told me when to ask Amy to marry me. Back then I thought it is too soon… Well, now I can’t wait much longer. Ohh and she said “YES” to marrying me too! in case you wondered.

The more interesting bits of our story are definitely in Amy’s part.

Amy: A long time ago…. Well, actually it was two years ago, when I went to New Zealand. You can’t expect to find a man behind every bush, but behind a Bible… maybe. There was this one guy, a German guy, who absolutely fascinated me. From the very start I felt there was a wisdom and gifting from the Lord that Silas had that made me want to be his friend. I quickly found myself being drawn to this Bible loving, godly man, but I had heard that Silas planned to return to Germany at the end of my training school and I planned to stay in New Zealand. I thought I just had a crush that was never meant to be…

Fast forward to the brief time that I was home after my DTS with my family and fundraising to return to New Zealand. I woke up startled one morning because I had a vivid dream that Silas came to me and said he “loved me” (keep in mind that I had prayed many times to have a dream about my future husband). I hadn’t talked to or hardly thought of Silas for about 3 months at that time and I was shocked to have a dream about him. I did my best to forget it since I thought I would never see him again. A few weeks later Silas called me. He said he just wanted to see how I was doing. We had a great chat and I swooned a little that he had remembered me, but I still tried to put him out of my mind. I later found out that he had felt prompted by the Lord to call me.

Jumping ahead a few more weeks… I find out from a friend that Silas had changed his plans and he would be working with me in just a few months on the same training school. No matter how hard I tried to tell myself he would never be interested in me, I couldn’t get him out of my mind. All throughout 2020 I worked with Silas and had the chance to pray, problem solve, and grow in friendship.

The more I got to know Silas the more I saw that this was the kind of man I wanted to marry. However, I had very little hope that he would ever care for me in that way. One night just before lock down in NZ I felt God wake me up and ask me what I wanted. My heart started to race as the very clear answer was, I wanted to get to know Silas. I felt God say to pursue being an intentional friend, but I wasn’t to tell him how I felt. So, for 6 months I kept hearing God say that Silas was the man I was meant to marry and that it was “coming soon” and that it would “happen quickly”, but I still didn’t see any interest from Silas. Little did I know that as I prayed for him, he prayed for me. In August I felt God saying that it was about to happen. A month later Silas asked me to be his girlfriend and I knew in that moment I had met my husband. Silas ended up telling me he loved me one year after my dream. I was floored by God’s intentionality.

During the first week of our relationship, I was lying in bed one night and I was shaken by the presence of God. I felt God say we would get married in January. Umm… What? We just started dating, and I didn’t even know when we would get engaged let alone married. As I prayed about this for a few weeks I continued to feel God say it was the right time for us. I eventually brought it up to Silas who agreed that he also was starting to feel January was the time for us to marry. We are a bit of an odd bunch. We talked about wedding dates before engagement dates. However, we listened to God together and our story has been all I could ever dream of. Silas is truly my Prince Charming.

December 13th, 2020 Silas took me out for the day. I knew engagement was coming but I didn’t know how he would do it. We started our day with a wonderful breakfast, drove to a beautiful town a few hours away, where we wandered around and had a picnic. Then we headed off the beaten path to a stunning waterfall. After a short walk to the bottom, Silas got down on one knee… and the rest as they say is history.

I have numerous verses, pictures, and promises that God has given me throughout this year and throughout our relationship, and one by one I have watched them each unfold.
